Welcome to our Seenga/Cleto Wiki!
please visit the "parents" section below with your child, and watch the informative YouTube video.
Table of Contents
March 26: As you know, your Wikispace is supposed to be completed by tomorrow! Please be sure to revisit the instructions for the project and make sure that you have covered all the topics before adding on any extras. Communicate with your partner(s) today so that each of you knows what to finish tonight. We're looking forward to seeing the finished products.
March 10: check out BLOOM'S TAXONOMY (link at left)... as we discussed in class, the different levels of thinking.
March 6: As per our discussion in class, please be careful that the work you put on your site is your own. If you use information from other people (this includes pictures, maps, etc.), you must cite it. Further, the "cut and pasting" that we discussed is to be used to support your information and should not stand on its own. A good way to make sure that you are doing your own work is to do your research using point form notes and then put it into your own words using these notes. Do not use words that you don't understand. We've been pretty happy with the work that we've seen so far but we're still waiting for a few introductions and K/W/L charts! Get them in!
March 4: Although many of you are quite far along, there are still a few of you who need to show one of us your K/W/L chart and/or your introduction. Get these checked today before you move on. Also, don't forget the 2 stars and a wish; peer feedback is an important part of our learning process! Keep up the great work!
March 1: Most of you have made some good headway. I figured out how to post the hitcounter Clustrmap on our page- check it out at the bottom. I will be sending you emails as I go through your pages to give you some feedback. Please remember that I, and others, have access to everything you post- I am looking for evidence of you using the technology to enhance your learning, not just socializing. Your job today, if you go on the wiki, is to take a look at a couple of pages other than your own, and post a message to the page author(s) giving 2 stars (things that you like) and a wish (a tip for improvement).
Feb. 26: Keep sending me your completed Intros and KWLs; when you have heard from me, make your page and set it up properly. If you have done this, make your first entry on your work log and then get to it!
DAY THREE (ish) February 24, 2009.
Congratulations to those who have successfully emailed Ms. Enga with their introductions and K/W/L charts (or lists). This must be finished before you make your page. WHEN YOU HAVE THE OK from me (Ms. Enga), you can create your own page. Your page must have the same format as the sample page (see left). The next step is to start researching, using the notetaking charts (or a system of your own device) we used in class. Please let Ms. Enga know via email which section you are starting to work on.
DAY TWO(ish) February 19, 2009.
Thank you to everyone who has joined, and to Evelina, Jeffrey, Prerana and Matthew for figuring out how to post a Ring of Fire map. Nice work.
IF YOU HAVE NOT YET JOINED: get someone who has to show you how. DO NOT CREATE YOUR OWN WIKI!
Thank you to everyone who has emailed me with their username and which country they have chosen.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BE WORKING ON:
The introduction. The Know/Wonder/Learn chart, and then a paragraph answering the three questions outlined on the project instructions. Email this to me (a Word document); when I have approved it, I will create you a wikipage to get started online.
DAY ONE: February 10, 2009
1. Send Ms. Enga an email requesting permission to join this wiki.
2. Watch the video about what a wiki is.
3. Find a map of The Ring of Fire and post it on the appropriate page (when you have joined!)- WITH YOUR SOURCE.
(We will vote on the best map and delete the others... if the map you find is already posted, find another!)
Students in our classes have been instructed to:
Keep ALL personal information off the Wiki (full name, name of school, email address, even the city we live in)
Send email messages with the assistance of their teacher
Consider their audience (the world) before they post anything on their Wiki.
2007/2008 class wiki
Mr. Truss's Science Alive project
Creating this Wiki has many exciting learning applications, some of which are:
Extending students' responsibility for their own learning.
It allows students to determine what they need to learn, manage their learning, contribute to each other's learning and develop metacognitive awareness.
Making learning meaningful.
It encourages students to use their existing knowledge, promotes active knowledge construction and higher level thinking, and provides a real audience to make the task authentic.
Parents, please visit the Wiki often and ask your child more about what they are doing and how he or she decides what to post on it.
