~Hawaii's Flag~
~Hawaii's Flag~

Shari-I chose Hawaii for my Ring of fire project. I chose Hawaii because I think it is really similar to Japan because they are both made up of many islands and they are both surrounded by the ocean. The things I knew about Hawaii already are that it is made up of many islands, and it is in the ring of fire. I also knew that Hawaii is a humid country and that is one of the reasons that many people like vacationing there. Also Hawaii has a lot of active volcanoes. Hawaii’s capital city is Honolulu and it is the biggest city and Honolulu is in Oahu, People play lots of water sports, like surfing, and Hawaii has a tropical climate.

Shayla-The country I picked that is on the ring of fire is Hawaii. I chose Hawaii because it's a nice tropical paradise and I would like to go there one day. Hawaii is made up of many islands such as Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, Niihau and Kahoolawe. Honolulu is Hawaii's biggest city and capital city. Nicole Scherzinger from the pussycat dolls grew up there. Hawaii has two official languages English and Hawaiian.

Subtopic 1- Location

Where is Hawaii located?
Hawaii is located at 157°47′47″W Longitude, and 21°18′41″N Latitude. Hawaii is located near the center of the Pacific Ocean, slightly north of the Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is not part of any continent, though it is politically part of the United States. The major body of water that surrounds Hawaii is the Pacific ocean. Hawaii is on the Northern hemisphere.

Subtopic 2- Physical Environment

Hawaii is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. The Hawaiian Islands cover up to 10,932 miles. The highest point in Hawaii is the Mauna Kea which is Hawaii's tallest mountain. The Wailuku River in Hawaii and the Anahulu River in Oahu are two of the biggest rivers that Hawaii has. Hawaii is the only state that is not part of the American continent. Hawaii is actually made up of 132 islands that are the erupted volcanoes, but have been divided into three land groups. The climate in Hawaii is usually hot or mild, though sometimes it does rain. The wildlife in Hawaii includes the Nënë (the wild goose),The 'O'opu (a small fish), The humpback whale, The Pueo (the owl), and the capital fish of Hawaii, the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (which is a fish).

Subtopic 3- How is this country a part of the ring of fire

Hawaii is actually made up all from volcanoes. This is called the Hawaii hot spot. The Hawaiian hot spot does not move, the pacific plate does. The plate moves over and carries each island one by one as they form, and then after each one moves, another one forms in it's spot. Then that one gets carried away as well. Then this cycle continues. It took over 40 million years for Hawaii's islands to form! That might seem old to you, but it is considered young compared to the earth, which is 4.5 billion years old! <--- Flow chart

Subtopic 4- Interacting with the Environment

When you go to Hawaii, You will probably get greeted and a lei will be put around your neck because it is a tradition to greet people with a lei. Lei's are beautiful necklaces made from fresh Hawaiian flowers. It is also a tradition to have a luau. This is like a party were Hawaiian grown fruit and pork is eaten. They make houses with lots of supports because of the volcanoes, and floods. The Hawaiian people also eat a lot of fish because of their surroundings and because they are islands. Because of the earthquakes that happen there, Hawaiian people live in earthquake-proof houses. Also people in Hawaii play a lot of water sports such as scuba diving, surfing, boating and many more.

I think that the most important thing I want other people to know about this country is that Hawaiians do almost EVERYTHING different than what we do. We don't greet people with lei's or have luau's. We don't always do do water sports, They almost always do. And Hawaii was formed up of all volcanoes. I think Hawaii is really interesting and I am glad I learned about it.
